Symptoms of Codependency

“Truly unhealthy relationships simply serve the same function for us as very strong drugs.  Their dramatic ups and downs create equally powerful distractions from our own lives and feelings.  without such men on whom to focus, we go into withdrawal, often with many of the same physical and emotional symptoms that accompany actual drug withdrawal: nausea, sweating, chills, shaking, pacing, obsessive thinking, depression, inability to sleep, panic and anxiety attacks.  in an effort to relieve these symptoms, we return to our previous partners or desperately seek new ones.”  From Daily Meditations for Women Who Love Too Much by Robin Norwood

Codependency has emotional and physical symptoms which are harmful to our lives.  We need to learn to stand steady in the midst of an addict, not an easy thing to do.
